Ever since Laura’s death I wanted to create a charity in honour of her memory. Unfortunately my own life has been shattered and my feeble attempts have come to nothing, apart from Laura’s Voice Whispers from an Angel, a book put together by an inconsolable grieving mother.
When Laura was alive she wanted to help people through her hands. She wrote the words in her book, and she gave me her story to write, so I will now try to help through my hands, currently writing Suicide at the Burj Khalifa, and giving 50% of the profit on the sale of most of my art on https://www.saatchiart.com/LeonaSykes
100% of the profit from the sale of Laura’s Voice Whispers from an Angel will go to one of my preferred charities.
The first charity I would like to nominate is Gracie’s Love in a Bowl which is based in Hout Bay, the last place where Laura stayed in South Africa before her return to the Middle East. Laura’s ashes were set free in the little bay.
I met Gordon Aeschliman and his wife Michelle last year at his gardens, in fact I worked in the gardens one morning alongside two volunteers from Brazil, and was touched by his total dedication to feeding the needy. His energy is boundless and his vision unfaltering. Please watch the video which he sent to me this morning, and if you would like to donate directly to this very worthy cause, go to the website: https://gracie.org.za/
In the future I hope to add a further two charities which will also benefit from the sale of Laura’s Voice Whispers from an Angel, available on Amazon, and Suicide at the Burj Khalifa due for release on the sixth anniversary of Laura’s death, 16 November 2020, and from my paintings.
Helping others will give my own life purpose.
One of the charities will be representative of the voiceless
The atrocious and tortuous conditions in which animals are forced to ‘live’, and the way in which their ‘lives’ end, just to be a meal on a plate for human consumption. All creatures have a right to life, as we do. Please watch Dominion. Let us be a voice for the voiceless.
A post from instagram.
The inhumanity of man towards each other. Greed, power, ego, corruption, cruelty, brainwashing, indoctrination, human rights’ abuses, and manipulation.
The destruction of the environment, the brainless pursuit of having more, of wanting more, when we need so little, with no respect or regard to how much we are destroying what we should be protecting.
The simple message which Laura left…”Love.” Perhaps with love in our hearts we could change the world…
25 December 2018. Some more videos to consider.
The Broken Century
Laura posted this one on her facebook, always concerned about nature.
