This and that…

April 2011. Laura was living and working in Saudi Arabia.

Sand, sand, and more sand

7 April 2012, back in Dubai, Laura shared a post by Living Quietly by Myself on her facebook.

10 April 2012 Laura shared this music link on her facebook, a bit of a departure from her usual taste in music.

And some snippets of news which caught my eye over the past few days.

More discord in the Middle East, this time in Jordan.

The former crown prince of Jordan says he has been placed under house arrest as part of a crackdown on critics.

In a video passed to the BBC by his lawyer, Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, the half-brother of King Abdullah, accuses the country’s leaders of corruption, incompetence and harassment.

It comes after a number of high-level arrests said to be linked to an alleged coup plot.

The military earlier denied Prince Hamzah was under house arrest.

But it said he had been ordered to stop actions that could be used to target Jordan’s “security and stability”.

The move apparently comes after a visit by the prince to tribal leaders where he is said to have garnered some support.

Prince Hamzah has denied any wrongdoing and said he was not part of any conspiracy’.

From another article about Jordan:

‘One of the most prominent figures arrested on Saturday was Bassem Awadallah, the former head of Jordan’s Royal Court and now an economic adviser to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He holds dual Saudi-Jordanian citizenship and has appeared as a moderator at Saudi Arabia’s high-profile Future Investment Initiative forums. The Washington Post reported that the Saudi foreign minister’s delegation was refusing to leave Jordan without taking Bassem Awadallah back to Riyadh with them. This, say Saudi officials, is untrue.

Bassem Awadullah has a number of powerful international connections. As well as his position close to Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, he has links to the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed. He has reportedly been involved in recent UAE-backed purchases of Palestinian land around Jerusalem’.

Why is the UAE purchasing Palestinian land around Jerusalem?

The last article for the week. War crimes and brutality and hatred towards the Palestinians.

‘Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel would not cooperate with ICC inquiry into alleged war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories’.

But on the American front, some help for the Palestinians.

Yesterday, the highlight of my week, was to be in nature, this time visiting caves in what must be one of the most beautiful locations in Cape Town. The huge boulders gently retained the heat of the sun, which I felt as I sat down to absorb the peacefulness and purity that only nature can bring. A beautiful dog accompanied me, my guide, my companion and my protector. So nice to find some beauty in the ugliness of this world.
