23 years ago nine-year-old Matthew Ohlson went missing.
His disappearance from outside his Mitchell’s Plain home on 24 March 1997, never received the same amount of publicity or investigation which Maddie McCann’s did. Three-year-old Madeleine disappeared on the night of 3 May 2007, thirteen years ago.
He went outside his home to bring in the dustbin wearing only his underclothes and a t-shirt, a task which should take just a couple of minutes. Instead it has given his family twenty-three years of heartache, of not knowing what happened to Matthew and if he is still alive. Like Maddie.
The Matthew Ohlson case is puzzling as are most of these cases. The house was in a cul-de-sac with no thoroughfare traffic, making it more difficult to snatch a child.
Apparently a child will be taken to either rape or murder, or sold into the human trafficking industry. After Matthew’s disappearance his mother started an organisation which helped 90 out of 400 families reunite with their lost child. The police case is still open. It would be great if she could also get closure.
Please help. There must be someone somewhere who knows something about Matthew’s disappearance.
A few years before his disappearance, in 1995, Norman Avzal Simons, also known as the ‘Station Strangler’, was convicted on one count of murder and one count of kidnapping a ten-year-old boy, and sentenced to life in prison. However it is believed that he was responsible for the murder of another 21 boys found face down in shallow graves, sodomised and with their hands tied behind their backs, their ages between 9 and 13, some of his victims garrotted with their own underwear. Handwritten notes were sometimes found next to his victims. His reign of terror was between 1986 and 1994.
He was a Grade 5 teacher at Alpine Primary School in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, South Africa. So many predators are hidden amongst the most vulnerable, their devious and sick minds, just waiting for the right opportunity to strike. He would lure them away from train stations by asking them to help him carry boxes in exchange for money.
Since his incarceration some more boys have disappeared in his selected age group, one of them Matthew Ohlson. Is there copycat rapist and serial killer at large?
If anyone has any information please contact me via a comment on this post, (which will remain private and won’t be published beneath my blog), or the investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel Daliwonga Saki on +2782 559 4631. I hope that Matthew is still alive, but if he isn’t, his family needs closure.
