For four years after Laura’s death I was not interested in what was happening in the world, apart from Dubai. Now, first thing in the morning, I look at many different news agencies reports and feel that the world would be a much better place without people.
But before I read about the ongoing turmoil in the world, I open my patio door and smell the first morning air, fresh, untouched by the day, and I listen to the orchestra of birds happily welcoming another uncomplicated day. There are no borders or visas. They roam freely in search of food. If there is no food, they leave. They have the answer, not man. We are stupid.

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum on Sunday announced that UAE has approved a ‘golden’ visa grant allowing 10-year residency for certain professions including specialised degree-holders and others.
Taking on Twitter, the Dubai leader said that the visa grant will be for “all holders of doctorate degrees, all doctors, engineers in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, programming, electricity and biotechnology, outperforming accredited universities in the country at a rate of 3.8 and more,” as roughly translated.

An immigration document said applications for employment and visit visas are now suspended for nationals outside the UAE.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stopped issuing new visas to citizens of 13 mostly Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, Turkey, Syria and Somalia, according to a document issued by a state-owned business park.
The visa ban also applies to citizens of Algeria, Kenya, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and Tunisia, the document said.
